An Afternoon with Braden Bishop

Braden Bishop may steal bases for a living as one of the top prospects in the Seattle Mariners organization, but on Feb. 11 he stole the show while speaking to Foster City Little League on a chilly afternoon at Sea Cloud Park.

Standing at home plate of Field B3 with a sign displaying his 4MOM charity behind him, the 23-year-old Bay Area native spoke to a crowd of around 100 onlookers about his experiences in the game of baseball and detailed the work that 4MOM is doing to raise Alzheimer’s awareness.

Bishop’s mother, Suzy, was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s in her 50s, and Bishop -- along with tremendous support from his family, the 4MOM team and Rivet Revolution partners – have been relentless ever since in their mission to help those like her suffering from the disease.

On this day, Bishop also went into more detail about baseball.

With little leaguers seated throughout the infield and their family standing behind them and seated in the bleachers, the St. Francis High product emphasized the importance of appreciating the moment and being a good teammate. Then, he took questions from the crowd, covering everything from his favorite little league memories to the overwhelming emotion he shared with his father, Randy, after being selected in the third-round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft.

From there, Bishop was gracious with his time, interacting with the kids, signing autographs and taking photos with everyone in attendance.

Special thanks to Braden, Randy, 4MOM and the team from Rivet Revolution for making it out to Foster City and providing FCLL with an experience we will all remember for a long time.
