On behalf of the FCLL Board

Jul 15, 2020 8:22 PM

Foster City Little League (FCLL) is providing all league members with an update regarding the criminal investigation conducted by the Foster City Police Department (FCPD), resulting in an arrest warrant being issued for one individual for felony embezzlement.

Below is a timeline of what has occurred:

  • September 2019: The FCLL Board of Directors reassigned roles, and during the transition, uncovered several discrepancies within the league finances putting the Spring 2020 season at risk. Upon discovery, and with guidance from Little League International, FCLL immediately informed the FCPD and an investigation was launched into the matter.

The Board immediately implemented protective safeguards in the league’s financial processes to prevent future irregularities. Members of the Board and community stepped up and made financial donations to FCLL to ensure the Spring 2020 season could take place.

  • October 2019-May 2020: The Board cooperated and stayed in close contact with FCPD as their investigation progressed. Following the direct instructions of the Foster City Police Department, the Board refrained from making any public statements that may have hindered the ongoing investigation and put it at risk. The only exception was the email update provided to the FCLL Community in November 2019.

  • June 2020: The Board was informed that the case had been sent on to the San Mateo District Attorney's Office.

  • July 10th, 2020: The District Attorney’s Office filed 6 charges of felony embezzlement with the court, and an arrest warrant was issued for one individual.

The Board would like to extend its gratitude to both FCPD and the District Attorney's office for handling this case with the seriousness and urgency required. We especially appreciate DA Stephen Wagstaffe for taking the time to keep all of us informed.

We ask that everyone please be patient as the legal process moves forward and we will keep the FCLL community updated as new developments arise.

This is going to be a challenging time for the entire FCLL Community, but like everything else in 2020, we will get through this and be stronger for it.

Our community remains strong, and our league continues to be supported by all the volunteers and sponsors on and off the field that keep baseball going in Foster City.

Regards,

David Saito
